JSTMM S.M.A.R.T. Monitor v1.0
Installation\Un-Installation:
To install simply unzip download package inside any folder and double click program exe.
To un-install, double click the un-install file, confirm and proceed. Manually delete un-install file.
Operating System Compatibility:
Works with all versions of Windows (NT, 95, 98, 2000, ME, XP). Some Windows 95/98 users may experience trouble with reporting of S.M.A.R.T. values: copy included smartvsd.vxd driver in \windows\system\iosubsys folder and reboot.
What is S.M.A.R.T. Monitor?
Hard disk drive manufacturers have adopted a standard called S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) which reports many internal drive performance attributes. This software monitors these attributes and alerts user to falling values due to damage or wear and tear. By being alerted to falling performance attributes, chance of data loss is minimized since proper preventive action can be taken before disastrous drive failure occurs.
How to use S.M.A.R.T. Monitor?
This software has been designed to perform with minimum user input. When starting the program for the first time, default values for the following 3 options are used:
-Monitoring S.M.A.R.T. values - can be set from 0 to 60 minutes. After each time period, attributes are monitored and displayed in second program tab. Set to 0 if you prefer to turn automatic monitoring off.
-You may choose to receive alerts (in case of value drops) in form of pop up windows or turn alerts off in which case values are still monitored and reported in main program interface and can be manually checked.
-You may choose to save last checked set of values to a HTML file.
In the first program tab, up to 4 drives may be checked and basic information is displayed. Only 1 drive can be set to get continually checked, so if you have more than 1 drive installed, only 1 drive at a time can be continually checked although information for each drive can be seen by choosing each one.
Complete set of S.M.A.R.T. attributes/corresponding values last checked is displayed in the second program tab. Different drive manufacturers may give different sets of drive attributes.
Please Note - S.M.A.R.T. values constantly drop and recover by a few due to normal drive work load like copying form a CD or playing music or video files. The key word used here is "recover" since bad drive health can only be deduced from a single or a set of S.M.A.R.T. values that drop but do not recover over a prolonged period of time.
