The 1986 LoW Directory Cover

"Loners on Wheels" was founded in 1969 by Edith Lane, a remarkable lady who was the first female trained as a parachutist in WWII. She was LoW President until 1985, when Dick March took over, a neat guy who flew missions with the Flying Tigers over the Burma Hump in WWII. In the good old days Edith was almost worshipped by her members, shown by the adulation of Loners around her legs. That is Edith's old Winnebago in the picture, it was sold after Edith went to live with her daughter in Alaska.

Dick March was featured in the lower left corner in the hammock as "The Shade Tree Mechanic" (ladies were always after him). My favorite is the lady trying to read Edith's LoW Newsletter with a magnifying glass, it was printed in dreadful dot matrix. I'm in there too with my first van, peering under the hood.

The LoW website at lonersonwheels.com has great information for any single RVer, it is a swell Club.
