July/August 1988 Cover

The little ESCAPEES Club was 10 years old so it deserved a party and a birthday cake to celebrate. Among the Chapters invited to the party was Rainbow's End (from Livingston, TX), who wore a jaunty cowboy hat with a big star on it. He was special so he got to hold the balloon titled, "Travis 1988".

Travis will always be 10 years younger than the Club

Travis Carr is the son of Cathie and Bud Carr (grandson of Kay and Joe Peterson) and he will always be 10 years younger than the Club. The years went by... Kay and Joe retired from running Escapees so Cathie and Bud took over, and Travis grew up to be a splendid young man who joined the Army.

Not only that, Travis wanted to be an Airborne Ranger, which is very special in the US Army. After more than 6 months of schools, he was one of only 58 of 600 candidates who survived horrendous training -- to the enormous pride of his mother and grandmother at the graduation ceremony.
